Hi Folks, we continue to be super busy, hence I haven’t had a chance to write.  There are so many bueatiful flowers to plant and choose from, and our vegetables are coming along nicely. We introduced our heirloom tomato starts for purchase last week, and hope to have more this week.

Until later!

We are really in the thick of it here at the nursery, working at full speed, we’d work harder if we could!  It is all about spring planting, and I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had a chance to update you all about what is going on.

We hired some help, thank goodness!  Two folks have come to our rescue, Damon & Cheryl, and they have really been great.

We launched one of our new projects, NY Native Plants. We are really excited about this project because we believe going back to native, will help us create a healthier environment.  Natives, require less work overall.  Less care, less water, and little or no pesticides, these are all really important attributes because, pesticides are mostly produced using petroleum, and you all know where petroleum comes from. So by planting Native Plants in your garden you make it easier for yourself and the environment. What a great deal!

Aside from our Native Plants at the market, we also have our usual spring plants. So come and check us out, stop by and say hello!

Well we are off and running. We have begun step one of rolling over to organic, which includes getting more information on the process and all that has to be done to get our certification.

As a licensed Naturopathic Physician, Tony believes strongly that the quality of the food we eat has a direct result on our health.  And the entire Carvalho family believes strongly in supporting locally grown, afterall, we are in the business of growing locally.  Moving our nursery over to organic is just a natural step in bringing our lives in line with our work.

For 2008 we hope to offer organic garden starts and herbs.  If we are really lucky and ambitious you might even see some vegetables.  Since most folks really have no idea of what it entails to be or to get certified organic, I thought I’d blog on our journey.

Also, I wanted to share some links with you all, mainly Green Market, where we sale most of our products.  Go Green Market!  And another link to Winter Sun Farms .  I found out about Winter Sun Farms in the Poughkeepsie Journal. They are an organization, that gathers produce from farms at the end of the season, then freezes it and sells their frozen vegetables throughout the winter. I bought a share this year and I am really excited about what they have to offer.

Seeing Red

That’s what we are seeing at OGF, lots and lots of red, and some white, pink and purple too.  It is poinsettia time.  After months of work, our poinsettia’s are ready to bring to market.  They sure are delicate.  Can’t be in the cold, and they don’t like to be in their sleeves for long.  But aren’t they bueatiful.  You can come and see them and us at the GreenMarket on Wednesday & Saturdays.  We are located on the corner of Union Square West & Broadway.  Below is our price list.

10″ Baskets are $13, 2 for $25

7 ” Pots are $10, 2 for $18

6″ Pots are $6, 2 for $11

4 1/2″ Pots are $3, 2 for $5
